One way to do this is to perform a "System Restore" to a previously known good date.

Check your machine for virus's, etc. Try Right Clicking on your desktop, then click refresh. Try Ctrl+Alt+Del, then Task Manager, Click on Processes Tab, then locate explorer.exe and right click and click end process, then click File, New Task(Run) and type explorer.exe
