I forgot my boot password on my old compaq presario 3000 and I can't get in.

Hello and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums.

If by boot password you mean the BIOS password, you're sunk but if it's only the Windows system password you could install a Linux system on to the same hard disk and transfer your flies to the new system.
