This desktop is pre-owned and does not have recovery disc. Windows will not start up have tried start-up repair to no avail, system restore no luck now my list of recovery options:
1&2 As above no good

3. Windows Complete PC Restore

4. Windows memory diagnostic tool= Did that And it says cannot communicate with disk drive.

5. Command Prompt

6. Recovery Manager

Can anyone suggest which option I should choose or perhaps something else I need to do please?

Hey Katy!

One option is completing a fresh install of windows over the top, providing that you have backed up your data (If Any)

Thanks a lot combat wombat-Just managed to fix my desktop- what I did is used my laptop's recovery disk (which I didnt realise, I could) which is also Vista (tho it's a different version) my pavilion then allowed me to use "system recovery" and made the back up disks- now it all up and running again-tho' I had to forfeit the "Ultimate" version for the "Home premium"! But I am just happy that I have it working and in a good state again.

Thanks very much for taking the time and bother to help me with this problem-appreciate it!
