Creative Webcam Live! Pro and Windows 7

Forum Computer Peripherals : Webcams Creative Webcam Live! Pro and Windows 7

Hello forum people :)

I tried installing the Creative Webcam Live! Pro with Windows 7 64-bit, but ran into issues when installing the driver. It popped up the message that an unknown error occurred, even in Windows XP compatibility mode. It used to run just fine in Windows XP.
I have a gut feeling that it just isn't compatible with Windows 7, but wanted to ask if anyone has had success with it or can confirm that it's definitely not seeing eye-to-eye with Windows 7.
If so, any thoughts on what new model to get?

Thanks much!

Ingumc,

Have you attempted to check Creative’s site and see if they have available driver for Windows 7? Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to also check the threads available there for additional assistance and feedback.

I'm also a user of this camera, but now non-user as it does not work with windows 7 nor did it work with vista. I paid over $50 for this and its support lifespan ended pretty fast. Creative's site does not list this cam for win 7 support.

So tough luck for me and others who have this camera. Needless to say I WILL NEVER AGAIN PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM CREATIVE!! ALSO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO COME TO ME FOR COMPUTER HELP WILL ALWAYS BE ADVISED BY ME NEVER TO BY THEIR PRODUCTS!

so there's your answer ingumc

Yea, I did some additional research and realized that they didn't release a Vista driver either. So, now it's just stored in a drawer in my closet. I bought the HP KQ246AA from Best Buy on sale, and it worked with Windows 7 64-bit right out of the box. The performance is similar to the Creative one, and includes a built-in microphone. So far so good.

Just to let anyone know who has the creative webcam Live Pro .. the xp drivers installed it and it's working fine on windows 7 for me. :)

I'd like to know just how you got Windows 7 to use the XP drivers for the Webcam Live?
I've tried since Windows Vista to get this cam working on anything but XP.

As the earlier poster said, Creative are very poor at OS support with their products preferring instead to force customers to simply buy another model. No more Creative products for me either.

I have the original WebCam Live! and I got it to work with windows 7 x64.
I downloaded the xp x64 drivers from creative, then extracted the files.
I then went to windows device manager, right clicked on the WebCam Live! and chose Update Drivers...
Then I told it to look in a specific spot for drivers, and chose the folder where I had extracted the files.
Tada!, it worked.

Hope this helps someone.

Does not help so much. I am confused about a couple things.

1. The thread originally talked about "Creative Webcam Live! Pro". Your post talks about "WebCam Live!". Is that different? I did not see an option for "Webcam Live!" on the Creative website. I saw "Webcam Live! Pro", "Webcam Live! Motion", and a couple other versions of "Webcam Live! something-or-other", but nothing just "Webcam Live!".

2. On the Creative website, when downloading "Webcam Live! Pro" it gives you an drop-down for OS and "Windows XP" is an option, but no "Windows XP 64-bit". Was there a separate 64 bit option that I am not seeing?

OK, between my and my family I own 4 of these perfectly good cameras, and have been trying for weeks to figure the driver this out for windows 7 (64bit). I've been to Creatives web page - no good b/c the discontinued support of the product, and I've been to the creative worldwide site mentioned above which only had xp drivers, and 32w bit @ that.

I don't know what I did diffrent this morning, but I found this hither to unseen page at creative worldwide

http://support.creative.com/Produc [...] C3%A1maras

on this page you ca down load and install Creative WebCam Live! x64 driver 2.00.06.0000

Warning, the install will fail!! It doesn't matter all the drivers will be installed on your computer. Default location is c: /webcam/wcamlive/

Once you abort the failed install, plug in your camera and manually point to this folder for your drivers. Whola, it works. Haven't tried in Vista but I bet it's good.
