I have the side of the tower case off but am clueless on how to remove the hardrive..?

Welcome to Tom's hardware Forums!

 

The hard disk is inside the metal enclosure next to the motherboard. Look for a SATA cable plugged into the motherboard at one end, and the other end into the hard drive. It will also have a SATA power connector that looks like this (black end) - http://www.google.com/products/cat [...] CHkQ8wIwAA
