External HDD booting

Forum Systems : Gateway External HDD booting

Hello again to the Forum. I have a Gateway LX6810-01 desktop with Windows 7 ultimate installed. On another computer I also have a HDD with windows XP Pro installed, and a whole bunch of other XP Programs installed. This is what I would like to achieve.

I really would like to clone the XP hard drive to an external USB drive, and then have the capability to boot the Gateway from that external drive with XP loaded, whenever I need to use some of the XP programs on that drive. How possible is this and what are the steps to achieve this?

you need a motherboard that will support booting from USB stick, adjust bios to check USB before booting from internal HDD
