I have an ALTEC LANCING 251 speaker system about 5 yrs old but still great.

Do I set my mobo to AC97 or HD, only it seems on HD no sound is coming from centre and subwoofer.

any help appreciated.

Give your mobo details first.

If you are using In-built sound. It's aready defined, ac97 or HD. you cannot change that.
Install the proper drivers first.
You can change settings in your settings, so that you can use LINE IN for REAR Speakers & MIC for CENTER/SUBWOOFER.
