Hello,
I have a laptop gateway m6324,with vista and I think that I erased my cd/dvd drive. I doesn't show up anywhere. I called Gateway went thru the steps of "regedit" deleting upper/lower filters and rebooting but still no cd/dvd drive any solutions?

Does it show up in Device Manager? Is there a yellow flag next to it? If so, try deleting (disable) the device and then restart the computer. You will get a message "New hardware found" and the system will go through the device install and load the drivers.

(Deleting the Upper/Lower filters is the right approach)
