why i cant open my desktop icon and it keeps asking me "open with"

What are you trying to open?

Right mouse click on the icon and look at it's Properties. Can you go to the location shown in the properties and find that item there?

It sounds like you're trying to open a file for which you don't have the proper program installed to open it.

For example, if you have a pdf file, but you don't have adobe reader or a similar program, you'll get the open with box.

What kind of file are you trying to open?
