i want to reinstall windows on a dell xps dxp051 i believe is the model, i was wondering if i can reinstall windows from a regular windows xp cd or i need a dell windows xp cd? i don't want to get one from dell because i already had one

You can do either, it is usually easier with a Dell issued copy as you usually don't have to go through the activation process.
