Download the CPU-Z utility and tell us what motherboard you have. This will be the biggest limiting factor in your upgrade.

I'm getting a Dell E521 with a X2 3800 or X2 5600 this summer maybe this month.

I want to be able to upgrade to a AMD K10 in 08.

If the board is AM2, I believe you may be able to. K10 is supposed to work with the previous AM2 boards. When K10 comes out you can probably call Dell and ask them (like they would know). Or you buy one, try it and return it if it doesn't work.

That's good advice, Dell would tell you that an 8800 GTX would work in it.
