Are there any hacks or mods that you can take out the DVD rom and replace with an HDD or something. i was thinking of getting an ssd for the OS and an extra hdd for games and what not
You could have an SSD and as many HDDs as you like in a PC and just select the SSD as the drive you want to install the OS to when doing the initial installation of the OS.
And then when installing games and applications just click "custom" when it asks what kind of install you want to do; and select the folder (that you make) that you would like to install that game or application to.

Then no, there is nothing you can do unless that laptop is designed to have an additional drive in place of the dvd/cd drive.
