Recently, my network provider for my mobile phone gave me the opportunity to change sim card. I would get a sim card with larger memory (64 kb!) and additional functionality would be added. This made me wonder. If they can add menus, can't I make them? And add additional software to my phone? I was thinking even further: change settings in the phone you're not supposed to change; I have about 7 default backgrounds stored in my phone and I can't replace them by others. That only leaves me room for 1 picture of my choice... I have a T39m (yes, with bluetooth... usefull to hack it?). Does anybody know how to hack cell phones?

I read <A HREF="http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/ptech/06/13/popsci.beast.phone/index.html" target="_new">this</A> article on CNN a week ago.

Anway, the idea is (provided your phone uses the KVM or some variant of J2ME runtime) you obtain J2ME from Sun. Write an app, compile it, upload it to an appropriate server, then download it to your phone. If you can obtain the lock code for your phone, then you may be able to perform addtitional (albeit DANGEROUS) modifications to your phone.

wow, thanks, really helpfull; but then again it isn't; unfortunately my phone isn't a very recent one, so it doesn't support java apps... and that doesn't really get me anywhere, does it...

The Sony Ericsson site does not say whether your phone is Java enabled. It still could be, especially if it is less than 19 months old.
