What is a decent approximation of the the equivelant dual core processor to an i7 mobile sandy bridge chip?

You don't really give enough info here, i7 has several steps of speed, and you don't say if you are looking for a i5, i3, Core Duo, or what cpu family in the dual-core configuration. Intel or AMD chip?

Honest mistake,
By mobile sandy bridge i7 chip, I was referring to the entry level 2.0Ghz chip ( as I understand, even the extreme version offers little increase in the benchmarks)
By Equivelant Dual Core, I was referring to whatever number of Ghz an equivelant intel Mobile Core 2 Duo chip would offer a roughly equal experience.

Sorry for the confusion!

Just going by the chip, you'd probably need a 25% clock rate speed boost over the i7 chip to be about on the same level. Something in the 8000 or 9000 series should be OK. http://ark.intel.com/products/family/26548

Ok, so in theory, a 2.5 Ghz core 2 duo chip would be equivelaznt to a 2.0 Ghz i7 chip.

Thanks!

P.S:
I needed to know, because most of the product specs on steam are still set to dual core processor.

Ah, well, for gaming, as long as the CPU is not a low voltage one, any i5 or i7 chip will run games well, maybe not all at high settings.

yes, but I just needed to know the theoretical clock speed. For comparison, ETC.
