Generic print drivers small all

Hello,years ago all printers were "Epson compatible," which meant that you could use any computer with any printer. To do the best job you needed the correct driver... but you could get by.
IS there any generic driver that will work with most bands of printers??? ANYTHING???

I thought the printer were "HP compatible" unless you are really going back years ago, as in over 10.

Most printer have HP emulation, usually HP4 drivers will print. Or try PostScript drivers, that is, in theory, a "generic" driver as it's a language standard rather than a standard from a printer vendor.
