looking for the smallest and lightest laptop with an 15 or 17 that has firewire or an xpress slot and if there is neither what can i use to capture video at 720x480

This is really a matter of your budget. What you are describing is widely available (firewaire). Many Dells, Sony Vaios, and Apple MacBooks have firewire ports, I am sure others do as well.

How much do you have in mind to spend? And, what applications do you intend to use for your video capture and editing?
