[Solved] ASUS N52DA-X1 vs Acer Aspire AS7552G-6061

Which of the two is better for semi-gaming (like Supreme Commander, Online downloadable FPS, etc. (not really games like Crysis, etc.)). Also, multitasking between games and other windows at the same time, stuff like that.


Acer has (I believe) a better processor, AMD Phenom II Quad-Core N950(2.1GHz), while Asus has AMD Phenom II Quad-Core P920(1.6GHz). (would this make a big impact)?

As for the graphics, the Asus has a superior ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730, whereas the Acer has the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650. I don't think that this would be a big difference, but by all means, correct me if I'm wrong.

As for the screen size and hard drive, those things don't really matter to me.


Price of Acer: Approx. $750
Price of Asus: Approx $780


So, which would be the best notebook to buy, the Acer or the Asus?
Or, if you know of a better laptop at around the same price, could you give a link?

There is a smaller performance difference between the HD 5650 and HD 5730 than the numbers would suggest.
On the other hard - the bump up in performance between the CPUs is more impressive.

Passmark CPU scores:
AMD Phenom II P920 Quad-Core = 1978
AMD Phenom II N950 Quad-Core = 2697
Intel Core i5 M 460 @ 2.53GHz = 2582

Passmark GPU scores:
Mobility Radeon HD 5650 613
Mobility Radeon HD 5730 660

Not better, but in the same ballpark: $800 TOSHIBA Satellite L655-S5114 Core i5 460M(2.53GHz) 15.6" LCD Mobility Radeon HD 5650 4GB RAM

If the bigger size and heavier weight don't put you off the Acer Aspire is probably the best overall performer when you weight general purpose computing equally with gaming.
The Toshiba would slot in 2nd behind the Acer in performance alone, but it's also a pound lighter than even the Asus laptop.
Generally, Asus and Toshiba are thought to have a bit better overall quality than Acer.

The processor is lower (Intel core 2 Duo P8700 2.53GHz) but it has 6gb ram and a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M 1gb graphics card.

Would the higher RAM and better graphics card outplay the Acer even though it has a better processor?

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the 6gb RAM is DDR2 as opposed to the Acer's 4gb DDR3 RAM.

Get the Acer Aspire with N950 and 5650 as difference between 5650 and 5730 is not much but difference between P920 and N950 is huge.
