Hey guys, I'm thinking about buying a macbook pro off of ebay. I think I might want to buy one with less ram and a small harddrive. That way I'll save a bit of money on it, and I can install a bigger harddrive and more ram myself. But theres one problem, I've never owned a laptop before, and I don't know too much about them.
Is it hard to install ram or a harddrive on macbook pros?

I was looking on newegg.com at laptop harddrives, and I don't know what to check for compatibility.
What should I look for to make sure a harddrive is compatible with a mac book pro?

replacing the RAM is super easy:
-invert the laptop
-remove battery
-unscrew small cover to get access to RAM

to replace the HDD is a bit more involved and I would recommend reading the guide from www.ifixit.com/Guide/. I replaced my HDD from 120GB to the 320GB and I'm very pleased with the additional space. Have fun! Just be careful with you remove the keyboard ribbon cable, the connector is delicate!

RE: HDD go to newegg and look for laptop HDD with SATA 3.0Gb/s interface.

Also, you can buy a 2.5" enclosure (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817198018) for the old HDD and use it as an external drive for whatever...about $20...
