It's not bad. Color scheme might not be for everyone. Certainly looks better than the XPS M1730 though :p

Anyone know if the 9800m GTX was anything more than a dye shrink?

Well i have HEARD that 9800MGTX will have 112 SP which will perform a little better than 8800MGTX but again i have heard it

also M1730 isnt that bad, i began to search for it and i find it pretty good too, the smoke grey and red versions are very nice IMO and the LIGHTFX makes it better, overall i like it :D

I have mixed feelings: one one hand, new technology is almost always at least a little exciting, but on the other hand, I'm somewhat less enamored where pushing the envelope in mobile performance always makes "mobile performance" mutually exclusive-- that I don't think we've seen the breakthrough in graphics processors that we've seen in main processors, a la the Pentium M (do more with less) and its derivatives. Although, Nvidia being able to clock they're SPs asychronously, is a step in the right direction.

I guess hose thoughts bring up another question: Does it seem, that most of the market movement (corporate purchases excluded) are driving at the extremes of the spectrum: one end being the gaming / high-performance (like this Qosimo, the XPS, OCZs first offering) and the other end being the ultra portable / mobile appliance (Eee PC, WIND, U110, MacBook Air)?

Crap. I'm going to reply to my own post.

I think that one mitigating factor, where we can have our cake and eat it too, could be found in those external video solutions.

9800mgtx is a more powerfull card than a 8800gtx.

9+8+0+0=17 core = g92
8+8+0+0=16 core = g80

But if it happens like the desktop models then the 9800MGTX may just be a refresh and nothing more
