Hi. I'm confused between 2 laptops:
No 1:
http://www.ncix.com/products/index [...] cture=Acer

No 2:
http://www.ncix.com/products/index [...] cture=ASUS

I like the Acer laptop more because it has a blu-ray drive, it's very suitable for gaming, and the LCD is great with a 8ms pixel response rate, but some fella told me that Acer laptops have much less quality than ASUS laptops. I wanna know if this is right? :heink:
Do Acer laptops have good quality? Specially for someone who play a lot of games on them? Should I buy the ASUS laptop although I like Acer much more?
Thanks in advance. :)

Personally I actually like Acer better than ASUS in the laptop arena. Acer is actually a HUGE company, comparible to Dell outside North America. They just don't have much market share here in North America.

I belive that there are no notisable quality diffrence between the two, so go with the Acer if it's the one you like.

Sure Acer leads the list of notebooks most likely to fail, however those comparisons usually doesn't take the model into account and as Acer have several models ranging from dirt cheap to top of the range, and is in the top 3 in sales, an Acer is more likely to end up in the hands of someone who treats it badly than most other notebooks. Would actually be nice if someone made the failure rate calculation according to model and price instead of just brand.

You may be surprised to learn who actually manufacturers a notebook and who merely rebrands someone else's.

Arguing about "who is better" Company A or Company B" can be a bit silly as quite often one is made by the other. Acer has had quite a few ODM's over the years.

Based upon the above if you buy an Acer notebook, it could have actually been made by Inventec, Compal, Quanta or Wistron.

After ruling out Foxconn Electronics (the registered trade name of Hon Hai Precision Industry) as a possible ODM partner for its notebook business, Acer is again seeking a fourth notebook contract notebook maker, according to company sources. Inventec and Asusalpha, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Asustek Computer are the most likely candidates to win the Acer orders, the sources added.

Acer will add Inventec to its list of ODM notebook manufacturers, joining Compal Electronics, Quanta Computer and Wistron, the Chinese-language Commercial Times reported today.

"Virtually none of the "Name" brands manufacture their own laptops, with about the only exceptions being Asus, MSI and Lenovo. Instead, Multi-National Brands (MNB) like DELL, Toshiba, HP, Compaq, Acer and Sony buy their laptops pre-built from what is called an Original Design Manufacturer (ODM). Some of the largest ODMs are Quanta, Compal, Clevo, Wistron, Arima, and Inventec...most of these names are unknown by most laptop users. "

CLEVO is a large Taiwanese computer company specializing in laptops. While the Clevo brand name is perhaps not widely known, their products are re-branded and sold by known boutique brand OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers)… notably Alienware, Sager, VoodooPC, Falcon Northwest, etc. They are also considered (by whoever knows about notebooks) to design and manufacturer the best of the best notebooks in terms of superior build quality and innovative designs.

I am typing this message from a Clevo laptop bought here in the US of A from ProStar who charged me less than 2/3 the price of what WidowPC, Falcon, Voodoo wanted for the exact same thing.

I don't think you will be able to find much difference between the brands. But for notebooks I think ASUS warranty period is longer than Acer.(In my country)... But from build quality and other factors i think both are same.
