I've got the Plextor PX-504A, and it only accepts DVD+R/RW media. I've had absolutely no difficulty creating multisession disks. I made one just last week, while working on a older computer, and I added files to the disk at least half a dozen times, as I looked for proprietary drivers, and added extra software.

Using Nero 6.0.0.19., I can write a multisesson CD at 16x, and a multisession DVD at 4x. However, Nero doesn't show that the disk can be burned at 4x until an actual DVD+R 4x disk is in the drive, until then, it displays 2.4x as the maxiumum burning speed.

I haven't used a DVD+RW disk, but I wouldn't expect any changes when choosing to multisession.

Perhaps those guys need to update their burning programs, and flash their DVD 'writers with the latest firmware. And use decent quality media. I've had excellent luck with Memorex media, and have used it for years.

I suggest that you stick with Nero 6, and you should be very happy with the new Plextor.

Sounds to me like the firmware for the drive needs to be upgraded.

For example, with the newest 8x Plextor, until the 1.02 version of the firmware was released, the first multisession on a disk made with Nero couldn't be read after it was created.

Problems like this have also been noted with different optical drives, especially when using fairly cheap media ... Sony products, in particular.

I already knew that you wouldn't run into the problem with the Plextor, because the 1.03 version of the firmware was released recently, but issues with the NEC drive are a separate, distinct problem.

Flash the drive, use good media, and see if the problem continues. If it does, either a firmware update in the future may correct the problem, or you can just stick with DVD-R media when using that drive.

Note: When flashing the firmware for a drive, make certain that it is the master on the secondary IDE cable, and that no other devices are attached to the cable during the process. You can re-attach everything to the "normal" arrangement afterwards.
