i had a Nforce2 chipset mATX board that uses a AMD cpu but the PCI bus was having problems with one of my video editing cards. so i purchased a P4 2.4G 800MHz and an equivalent intel mATX board, reinstalled my HDD's and the rest of my old AMD system into the new P4 rig and powered on but now the CD-RW and DVD-ROM that i switched over appear to have no power going to them cause they dont open and dont have any LEDs flashing.

The new system is booting ok from the HDDs but i want to do a clean install and wont be able to without the ROM drives working. i am new to pentiums, could it be that the new system requires more power from the old AMD one? and my 180W Aopen FSP 180 50NI(V) can't handle the load. The Aopen web site did say P4 ready.
http://english.aopen.com.tw/produc [...] 0NI(V).htm

The P4 board requires the 4 pin(2* +12V)which the AMD system didnt. And the +12V line is used to rotated the ROM spindle, isnt it? i also put one of the ROM drives into one of my working ATX systems with a bigger power supply and it was working, why isnt it now. i am feeling that it could only be an incompatability issue with the power supply, or can the mobo stop the ROM drive from (visually) powering up over the IDE bus? Also stripped the system back to one PCI card which is the raid controller. i could strip my ATX system out and use its power supply to test if it is the power supply causing the problems but of cause i dont want to do that unless it is going to be the only way to get it working in the meantime.

im off to do some further investigation but any suggestions would be welcome.

after writing this long msg, i tried just leaving the power connector in the ROM drive and removing the IDE cable. the ROM drive now has power to it, so it is the mobo stopping it from powering up. still would like some guidance as to how to overcome this, but atleast i am getting somewhere. off to further fault find.

Hmmm... I'm curious to know, did you move it back to the previous power plug, or did you just move it?
