Hello,
My MEDION Ext. Hard Disk Drive 500 GB works fine; BUT - will it operate faster if connecte to a 3.0USB port?

Not unless it's a USB 3 device. Connecting a USB 2 device to a USB 3 port it will only run at USB 2 speeds. It's always limited by the slowest device.
