my freind was playing need for speed or something, and i was in the other room. Then i heard a huge noice like someone dropped a glass or soemthing. And i went to see what happened, and there were bits of the cd EVERYWHERE!! The cd exploded and the drive is basically dead. heh. anyway, why did it do that?! did it get to hot or something?

Cooooooooooooooool
nah, ive seen it happen before, but not in person.
basically its more common nowerdays with fast reading cd-rom drives... fast reading means fast spining, sometimes up to 9000rpm!
such spin speeds put alot of stress on the cd's, and occasionally if the cd has a deep scratch or crack or flaw the force of it spinning can cauze it to basically explode.

hopefully it hasnt damaged the drive, allthought that is quite possible.
you will need to clean it thouroughly, removing all pieces of the cd.

that is the problem with cheap media these days, not so great quality... interesting pc seciurity system though, they dont type in the right password & your PC fires pieces of the CD at them

no-one shouts louder than someone who is being ignored, or in the case of techies, to be heard over the noise of their PC's ;-)

yeah. Kinda annoying. They use cheap media, you get lumped with a dead drive and chunks of a game.
