Probably just a simple question, but I'm quite new at this stuff.
What is the relationship between say for example a sat at 123 degrees
west and the 4 digit dish position number (ie:4850) that comes up when
adjusting the position of your dish.

Nothing really. The numbers on the sat rec. and the positioning of the
sat. are totally unrelated. The numbers on the reciever basically are
for the reciever to "remember" where to go back to, to get to that
sat.

Inside of your actuator arm is a reed switch that is sending "pulses"
to reciever as the actuator extends or retracts. These are the numbers
you see on the reciever pulses.

The dish positioning numerical values in relation to satellite positions
in the sky are peculiar to JUST THE RECEIVER that is displaying it.For
instance,on YOUR receiver,the satellite position of 123° W longitude
may be associated with dish pulse count position 4580,but on my model
920 4DTV it is at 5040.In fact,with the exception of the 3 most Eastern
satellites,all my pulse count ranges are in the 5000's.I also have my
LNB's installed at a 90° offset rotated setting vs. standard.There are
a lot of variables to this,including siting at installation,where the
original limit set points were when you pulled it out of the box,and
what type of mount you have and how fast it goes through the count
range......my horizon-to-horizon mount will be different than one that
has a telescoping armature.There are a lot of other things too.
In short,no two systems are likely to be identical that way.

Thanks, that helps alot. So then I would assume that once you find a
certain sat. you can use this as a base and adjust all the other ones
accoringly and to find for example, G1, you'll know that its the
correct sat. from the channels?

Right, you are. Once you get one sat programmed the next one is
usually 10 to 20 clicks, (on your remote), away. On the 922 the
programming window will even tell you to "move dish to...." This is an
approximation of the next location. Remember use an ACTIVE channel to
fine tune.

Ok, my real problem is that I can not get the guide to come up. I've
called a provider and have had a few hits. My time is good but no
guide. The signal/quality is about 66/99 an G1-3. In the system status
screen the authoriztion status changes from us to zk to oc, depending
on the channel. The diagnostics screen C (?) always says us/us. The
provider tried doing the hit on a few different channels but I still
have no guide. Done the soft reboot a few times as well. I do get
CSPAN and the shopping network etc... and a bunch of screens that come
up with "need supscription" so I assume the receiver is working fine.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I've had similar problems, and I had kinda' resigned myself to not
having the guide. But about a week ago I re-peaked my dish position and
skew and started getting the guide, at least part of the time. It
doesn't download on demand, but does seem to download overnight when it
works.

I'm using a 6.5' dish and have attributed my difficulties to that.
