my wife and i just picked up a humax DRT800 DVR / DVD-RW for use with
Cox extended cable and have no problems, now that I scrapped the cox
cable box (and the HBO) it works much smoother, since the old cable
box i had I had to use the IR cable to fake out the box. We priced the
upgrade to digital cable and renting the DVR box and it came to about
$30 extra a month versus the $500 we spent on the humax box and the
lifetime tivo subscription. I have some friends with Cox digital cable
and their DVR, and the only thing I dont like about it (besides the
cost) is you cant record to DVD with the cox dvr.

hope this helps.

If you are using Digital cable you'll unfortunately have to keep the
tuner box. It's a less than optimal solution as the IR blasters do make
the odd error every now and then, but it's not terrible. If you can use
a direct serial connection from the Tivo to the Cox tuner you'd be
better off, but I don't believe the Cox digital tuners support that.

No problems with Cox Digital Cable in Hampton Roads area for about a
year and a half now. Serial port on our receiver is not turned on, so
we use the IR blaster.

Beyond that, everything works great. I haven't seen one of the COX DVRs
so I can't offer a comparison.
