Hi,

I seem to have received this upgrade last night. The only new advertised
feature is the Tivo ToGo (which I will not be using)

I have, however noticed a few other changes:

* The Grid Guide is MUCH faster. It used to fill in programs at random when
you activated the guide or paged up or down through it. Now entire
screenfulls appear with minimal delay.

* A couple menu choices were renamed:

Now Playing => Now Playing List
Search Using a WishList => WishList Search (Actor, Category or Keyword)

* Seemingly much more detailed System Information

Has anyone else noticed other changes other than Tivo ToGo, for better or
worse, following the upgrade?

I think you've got most of them. Some noticed *slower* menus, but I
think the 7.1a upgrade, vs. the 7.1 version, fixed that for most.

There's also a lot of support added for things not completely
implemented yet. There's now an xml interface that you can connect to
via a browser, but that's completely unadvertised.

Yes, I had read that. I never received the original 7.1 "upgrade".

Also, I could swear that channel changes are slightly faster.

One negative I've noticed since the upgrade is that my Tivo now pauses and
the video pixelates for 2 seconds on occassion. It seems to happen most
often at the very beginning of the recorded show. Anyone else experience
this?

I've seen that on both of my Tivos. I've even seen sounds and voices
sometimes sound like they are in a tunnel. Usually rebooting the Tivo
fixes the problem.

YES! I thought that I might be the "Lone Stranger" with regard to my
experience with this problem, which started the morning following my
receipt of the updated software.

Disconnecting and reconnecting the electrical connection to my Tivo
Series 2, clearing and deleting everything, and performing a guided
setup from scratch did nothing to improve the situation.

When changing from one channel to another, a blue screen with
information of some kind is displayed very, very, quickly. All that
I've been able to read thusfar is "unable to display live tv".

Before going through the misery of contacting Tivo support, I'd very
much appreciate hearing from anyone who has dealt with this problem,
and has managed to successfully solve it.

A change I noticed with the 7.1 update was my recordings (on a 240 and
540 model) was that all recordings started with about 5 seonds of
choppy, garbled audio/video.

When I got the 7.1a update, the choppy bug vanished on the 540 unit,
but is still present on the 240 box.

You can get the message to come up yourself, in theory, by unplugging your
source cable while watching "Live TV". It's not really that interesting,
just a few steps to try to get the pictures back (make sure everything is
plugged in & on, try changing channels on your cable box, etc.).

Have you ever tried to contact TiVo support, or are you basing that on
support from other companies?

Try calling during an off-peak time. Off-hand, I'd suggest Wednesday
morning...

How much does it bother you? Does the "very, very, quick" display really
affect your enjoyment of the product?

I'm not saying it's not worth having fixed, but if it's "misery" to fix
it, but only "weird" to let it be, why bother?
