My desk top computer is connected to the cable modem in the downstairs (basement)office. The router is connected to that. We have problems with the wireless signal on the main floor with the laptop. How can I solve this problem. We placed a range extender on the main level, but have problems connecting to it.

Connected how? Cable? U should be connected to the router.
