my desktop computer which is connected to my home network through a d-link router does not recognize it and does not connect to it. ??????????????????????

Perhaps your network card is fried or needs updated drivers or the router is fried but im guessing you have other computers connected to it and working

Try different cable, port. If that does not work, try a different network card.
