Hello and welcome to Tom's Hardware Forums.

Windows Live Mail will be the default when Windows 7 is installed and if you choose a better one - not difficult - it will offer the chance to make it default. Failing that, right lick the Start orb and go to Properties>Start Menu and Customise and you can set your preferred e-mail handler and that will pin it to the Start Menu and make it default.
