Hello all,

My cousin owns a title agency in Jacksonville and since he knows I know some about computers he asked me to do this. I can build computers and know some networking but im in need of help with this one.

This is essentially the email he sent me.
"Instead of having her do a remote connection to one of our desktops, its seems to me it would be more convenient for her for us to setup a workstation with direct access to our domain network in her office. She will also need a laser printer and a scanner on her end, and be able to send to ours on our end."

My question is what steps need to be taken to get her computer set up and running with direct access to their domain.

setup a VPN between the two locations or you could use Hamatchi from LogMeIn.com

What server (Windows 2008, Linux, Unix,...) is she running her domain on and what are the routers (i.e. Cisco, NetGear,...)?

If she is running windows it will depend on the routers but should be pretty straight forward.

I believe they are running Windows 2008 for the server machine. She will be using Windows 7 Pro. I am not use on the routers. I've never done this before so some insight would be helpful.

Here is guide on setting up SSL VPN on windows server 2008. The router should be ok because the VPN should communicate over port 443.

A VPN creates a tunnel between the two computers allowing the connecting computer to treat the network as if they are there. When you have a successful connection they should be able see all the network and printers.

I would maybe try this in a "Sandbox" on their network before going after the DC. You should be able to download a trial version of 2008 and go to town.
