Forum Wireless Networking : Range & Connectivity File transfer speed over wireless

Hi,

Just something I stumbled onto and was wondering whether someone has tried it or has an opinion on it.
Have been experiencing speeds of max 2.5 Mbps for transferring files between Windows 7 machines connected wirelessly to a Billion 800VGT router. A speed of maximum 18 Mbps was achieved. No matter what I did to adaptor settings it was the best possible. Have 6 wireless machines which I cross checked multiple times using Lan Speed Test by Totusoft.

I then disabled the wireless security (WPA-PSK) on my Billion 800VGT router and secured the network by using the Wireless MAC address filter. My speed immediately increased to 11Mbps between wireless machines. Speeds to machines on fixed lan increased to 26 Mbps.

Am going to experiment with different types of security and routers but do not feel like re-inventing the wheel.

Someone been there?

Regards Eugene

Made a slight mistake, should read " A speed of maximum 18 Mbps was achieved between wireless and fixed wire lan devices before disabling security.

Oops
