Connecting to the Internet through another computer

Forum General Networking : Routers & Gateways Connecting to the Internet through another computer

I have an old laptop with an old wireless adapter that doesn't support WPA2. I have another laptop that does and is connect to a router. Can I hook up the old one directly to the new one to get on the internet (I want to use both computers at the same time) without connecting the old one directly to the router (because it is in another room)?

You must enable Internet Connection Sharing on the laptop that can connect to the router, then use an Ethernet cable to connect to the old laptop.

Thanks. I did that and both computers show good local area connection but it won't connect. My McAfee sees respective IP addresses from both ends. Does a regular internet cable work?

Yes, a regular cable will work with most computers, and if it was the problem you should not be showing a good connection.
