Internet is Slowed... sort of.

My girlfriend has encountered an issue with her internet being dramatically slowed. I first went to check the wireless internet speed and it was floating around around 1 mb/s. At the time, she had her Netgear router hooked up and was using the wireless internet.

In an effort to narrow down the problem, I disconnected the router and did a straight connection from the wall to the laptop. In doing this, the internet returned to normal at 5mb/s.

At first, I thought the problem to be with the router so she hooked up the router that was working only a week ago (she recently got this new router) and again the wireless internet speed was down to below 1mb/s. We tested the speed with hooking the cable up to the laptop and even tested the desktop (in another room) wireless and both test came up with sub 1mb/s.

Seeing as how the problem seems to be with BOTH routers, I would assume it is the computer. But since straight connection from the wall and the laptop works fine, I would assume it's the routers. But both these statements counter themselves so I am left with a conundrum of where the problem is... and how to solve it of course.
