Dell Optiplex GX270 - 2.4gHz 1GB Ram XP/Sp3

Currently run wired ethernet Intel(R) Pro 1000 Connection.
Also has installed Linksys Wireless-G PCI Adapter.

Found Cisco-Linksys WRT54GL Wireless-G Broadband Router for $55.

Question: Is it sensible to install this wireless router, or should I be
looking for newer hardware ? Looking for suggestions, (new to wireless).

Funnily enough I ordered the router your looking at a few days ago, it arrived this morning.

For the price its one of the best routers around if you install custom firmware.
You can boost the wireless, setup QoS and a whole bunch of other things. Essentially turning it into a $200 router.

Thank you for the reply. What custom firmware are you refering to ?
As mentioned, I am new to wireless hookups, and networks in general !

The one I'm planning on using is called Tomato (well a variant called TomatoUSB).

You simply upload the new firmware onto the router, reboot and your router is now running custom firmware. The wikipedia page I linked should give you a better idea of the extra features.

The main reason I brought the WRT54GL is for the QoS options. They allow you to prioritize internet access to different services.
In effect allowing someone to upload to youtube, while someone else uses facebook, my another person browses the web on there phone (WiFi) and I game with a low ping.
