Corrupted external hard drive fix

Hello,

How do i fix a corrupted external hard drive so i can gain access to the files? when i plug in on my laptop as usual, it makes a sound when a USB is inserted, but it does not show on "my coputer" so i cannot get to the files. it shows on the device manager, so i just assumed it might be corrupted but i may be wrong. Can any one help please!

hi anonymous go back to device manager right click hdd if the suspect one is showing
uninstall it and restart you computer with the hard drive still plugged in hopefully it should restart again and reinstall that drive cleanly,if it worked before you may be better restoring your computer back before it went wonky to a time when it did work
