Mixed Output V-Sync tear - unavoidable?

Forum Graphic & Displays : Graphics Cards Mixed Output V-Sync tear - unavoidable?

Word :    Username :

I just bought a 7970, for use in eyefinity with 3 monitors. Little did I know, there seems to be an issue when using two different display output types. I am using two DP and one DVI, as the 7970 only has two DP outputs.
I am experiencing screen tearing with v-sync on the DVI monitor, and I have read that this is because of differing timings with DVI and DP. Turning v-sync off is not a good option as I then experience regular screen-tearing.
Some claim this is unavoidable, but do any of you, the good people of tom's hardware, know of any remedy for this? The tearing is really unacceptable and makes certain games (like fallout 3) unplayable.
Thanks.

Usually while using a multi monitor setup, we would suggest you use the same monitors. But most of us started up with a set of different monitors when we began experimenting with such setups.
What company is the 7970 from?
Exact models are a lot more appreciated then something like a 7970 which is made by like 10 companies .....

I try to be as clear as possible, yet somehow people get the idea that my monitors are different. They are not, and as I previously stated, the problem seems to be due to the different outputs on the graphics card. I can't use 3 of the same outputs, because the card only has 2 DP, one DVI, and one HDMI.
The 7970 is a reference model. All reference models are identical save for the company sticker on the front.

Either way, you have to be specific on models and makers if you want the problem solved. Also you must make sure to give the models and resolutions of the monitors.
Otherwise you welcome to ask the question a 100 times.
And the answer is , I still haven't got the answer to the question which I asked you.
Try using the DVI,HDMI and DP combination.

Here's something from Hexus.net
"In the interests of full disclosure, the HD 7970 and HD 6970 are connected to the three screens by DVI, HDMI and mini-Displayport, with the latter two connections using the bundled adapters to HDMI"

im running a 7970 with 3 27 inch monitors. with eyefinity enabled i do notice page tears on my monitor that uses dvi. to fix it i went into catalyst. clicked on "my digital flat-panels". clicked on Properties. selected the dvi monitor from the dropdown. then clicked the bubble next to "Use centered timings".

after doing this i see no page tears unless they are the result of the fps and refresh being out of sync. which effects all monitors. so quite different.

scratch that it went all page tear crazy again. trying other stuff.

That's a pretty stupid problem for a GPU to have. Sorry to hear that. It's quite possibly you can get a DP splitter and run all 3 monitors off DP.

i know a simple fix. get a passive mini-DP to hdmi converter or a mini-DP to DVI converter and skip the dvi port. problem solved for like $10. go to monoprice.com for the cheapest prices. maybe amazon will have them cheaper.
