Forum Graphic & Displays : Nvidia Scan lines / Screen Tearing for Video Games | Win7 Brand New PC build

Hello, long time lurker first time poster.

Did a lot of searching, googling and testing before this post, if you find the solution that I missed then I freaking love you.

I just put together a new Intel build for my GF for one reason: Sims 3. She loads up Sims and in game there are what appears to be scan lines or possibly screen tears. They are prevalent in all kinds of environments in game and make the game unplayable for her.

I have been trying to fix this for a week now to no avail.

Here is what I have tried:

1. We have the same vid card, so I switched them out

2. Updated ALL drivers for MB, VGA, BIOS, Win7 mostly through the manufacturer websites.

3. Enabled Vsync and Triple Buffer in the VGA control panel

4. Forced the VGA to max graphics through the Nvidia Control Center for a theory that the PC is rendering faster than the monitor can refresh

5. I have ran another game and the lines are still present

6. We have ran the game on my PC with the same monitor, NO LINES. Again, NO LINES WHEN ON MY PC WITH SAME MONITOR AND VGA

Still lines on hers.... :(

I have tried all these things before posting this. Thank you so much for helping me figure this out.

On to the specs:

The monitor is a Viewsonic vs13860

Specs on geeks.com:

So its a 600 W corsair power supply, remember when I said we have the same card? I run a 500 or 550W PS on my PC

Thanks guys!!

Have you tried using different drivers from the Nvidia site?
Have you done a clean install of the vga driver?
Does it happen it any other game?

From the looks of it, it sounds like there is no Vsync enabled, however you said you've enabled it so that can' be the issue. Try updating you display drivers to the latest version, clean the temp files with something like CCleaner.

You could also try something like "driver cleaner" to get rid of any loose driver files.

I belive the problem is that your new CPU and Video card are rendering that game way to fast for you monitor. The causes the monitor to fall ou tof sync with the video card causing some frames to overlap. Normally vsync resolves this becuase it locks the video card to the monitors refresh rate. It sounds like vsync is not working. Thic could be a glitch in the game.

Try forcing vsync in the nvidia driver.
control panel
nvidia control panel
click on manage 3d settings
click program settings
select your game in the drop down box
last option is vertical sync
select force on
hit apply

that should do it.

It's never good when someone lists all the specs for their computer and they leave out the most important component......power supply.

Sorry guys, I assumed I would get an email about any replies.

So its a 600 W corsair power supply.

Vsync is forced on in the Nvidia CC.

I have the latest Drivers for all hardware.

Ive DL'd the latest driver for the VGA.

I have not cleaned the temp files I have not used driver sweeper, mostly because these are the only drivers installed on the PC, its a new setup.

I tried running Dragon Age and the lines are still there.

I read about the PC rendering faster than the monitor and I have ALL graphics settings maxed out in the Nvidia CC and the lines are still present.

I have tried all these things before posting, Im sorry for leaving it out.

EDIT: So I cleaned out the temp files with Ccleaner. No avail

I looked at driver sweeper and Im not sure how to use it. From what it looks like its listed the files for my drivers, Im not sure if those are remnants or if I clean them it will remove all my drivers. Any help with that?
