Quite often, I see a "+1" in a post, usually when giving an indication that the original poster is leaning toward something the poster who has the "+1" agrees with it being a good choice. My question is, what is with the "+1" and what does it mean? Where does it originate?

You're right - it simply means the poster agrees with the post above - short for plus one likewise opinion if you like.

It's probably an Americanism. :D
