Hi

I cant place my 2 gpus in 16x as they are too close and overheating is occuring

So i have a 8x port with there be any drop in gpu performance (SLI) by doing so?

Thank you

Moving from 16x to 8x causes either very small or no performance drop since current bandwidth utilization is not saturated even by most powerful graphics.

The two slots will most likely both run at x8 anyway.

Note: The PCIEX8_1 and PCIEX8_2 slots share bandwidth with the PCIEX16_1 and PCIEX16_2 slots espectively. When PCIEX8_1 is populated with an expansion card, the PCIEX16_1 slot will operate at up to x8 mode; when PCIEX8_2 is populated with an expansion card, the PC IEX16_2 slot will operate at up to x8 mode)

running two cards in SLI mode then x16 become x8/x8 mean both card take x8 speed.

If overheating is a problem, try increasing the fan speed. This may, in turn, increase noise levels though.

There is a 1% difference between 16x/16x and 8x/8x.

if you take my advice it's better than two gpu's. get single gtx 580 instead of two this should great idea for gaming as well as for other task no heat problem!

no drop in performance you didn't feel the drop in performance everyone using x8/x8 mode instead of x16/16 there is only 1 or 2% difference.

i'm running two gtx 580 in sli x8/x8 with 2500k everything rockssss!!

You can't notice a 1% difference in gameplay with the naked eye you would need an instrument to measure the difference in performance. Most motherboards are made for the shift from x16, to x8 and x8 and the performance dosen't suffer.
