Hello guys,

I wish you all a happy new year !!!

I have a little problem that bothers me a lot since BF3. Here's my config first :

i5 760 @ 4.2ghz (200x21)
4GB RAM 2x2GIG GKILLZ 1333@1600
MSI G55a something ....
2 x Sapphire 6790 @ 950/1150
Cooler Master GX650

My problem is when Battlefield was released in october, I wasn't able to put the preset setting on HIGH. I explain. It wasn't a FPS issue cause I was always above 60 but on screen it feels heavy and "slow" but not like FPS below 50. When I put Medium preset I got 70 + and it's a lot better and smoother and I don't know why .... I tried to customize my settings but I don't understand why 55 fps on a single card is smoother than 60 fps + on my 2 x 6790.

If I use D3DOverrider and force triple buffering over Direct X it's a lot better but the mouse isn't as smooth as without VSYNC. It's called mouse lag I guess ....

Does someone know how to fix this ?!

Ah nevermind I just read about Crossfire/SLI on TomsHardware and I think it's Micro-Stuttering .... oh well I guess I'll have to wait for better drivers/optimization to limit the micro-stuttering but it's only happening in BF3 not in BFC2 or Metro 2033... shame on BF3 :P

Do you have the latest drivers loaded for the video card? How much have you overclocked the video card and were you able to add any voltage to the overclock?

Yes videocards are overclocked 840mhz to 950mhz on stock voltage using latest 11.12 drivers. It was good with 11.11 cap3 I think but since the huge BF3 updates .... it's back. I had this issue since the lunch date but ati/amd fixed it in 11.11 cap3 if my memory is good but then on huge update with karkand and 11.12 cap1 it came back. I'm gonna try 11.12 cap2 if it's still "laggy" i'm gonna try 11.11 cap3 and I'll pick the best one ... no choice.

I can use voltage tweak but it stable like that. Also since 11.12 I got BSOD while playing BF3 randomly ... not sure if it's driver related or not.

Thank for the reply

You can see an example of microstuttering here, which shows you exactly what it is that is going wrong.
Maybe it will help you figure out if that is what you are experiencing.

AMD released 12.1 I believe and helps alleviate BF3 issues, I would try that.

Edit: I jumped to conclusions. It appears mostly to be rage related. But heck, why not try it out anyways?

Enable v-synch.

Not sure why,but it seems mostly hit or miss with BF3.I have the odd bsod(never consistent times, one day, then maybe a week later,)yet otherwise the game plays smooth as butta, all my settings are at ultra, except hbao/saoo off, blur off.At these settings with fraps/afterburner,avg is around 120-130 fps.cpu and gpu usage is around the mid 90% range all 4 cores/both cards.
then others cant even load the game,hardware/software doesnt even seem to matter.

try running everything on default settings(no overclocks)
mine also runs crappy with vsync on,off is fine
your system, like mine should be able to run it like no tomorow, but then again....
try this also.:
1-uninstall ccc and profiles,shut down
2-remove second card and reboot
3-install latest drivers(12.1) and profiles(11.12 cap2),shut down
4-install second card and reboot.

If it works,great,if not,try the 11.12 drivers.

another thing I noticed also, while playing the game,my memory usage hovers around 5.2G(i have 16G installed)

V-sync limits your frame rate which makes micro-stutter worse. You should never turn it with multiple gpus. If you get screen tearing (which happens when your frame rate is too high), it's easier to just disable crossfire or run in a borderless window (which also disables crossfire).

I run a crossfire setup and don't notice micro-stutter if I keep my framerate up. But you really should be aiming for minimum 60 fps (meaning your average will be closer to 80) for multi-player shooters anyway to be competative, so I don't think it's an issue. Other genres are more forgiving and you can probably run a lower minimum fps before noticing micro-stutter.

Thank You guys, I finally got it !!

I followed this as Ernie suggested :

1-uninstall ccc and profiles,shut down
2-remove second card and reboot
3-install latest drivers(12.1) and profiles(11.12 cap2),shut down
4-install second card and reboot.

And also did this command in BF3 console : renderdevice.forcerenderaheadlimit 1

Now everything is smooth like butter :)

I'm gonna upgarde my ram as also because it became a bit saturated while playing around 95 96% usage in BF3. I'm gonna get a 8 gig kit from Gskillz !!

Thanks a lot guys for your help !
