I'm upgrading soon and have a R2000/$250 buget to spend on a good buget card.

Specs

i7 2600 @ 3.4ghz
8gb ram 1600mhz
psu?
motherboard z68(dont know which yet)

This machine has to last more than 4 years.
Apparently Intel and Nvidia chips work better together so I'll be going Nvidia.
Thanks

$250... you could get a geforce gtx 560/560ti or radeon hd 6870/6950. can you wait till the new amd 7000 series and nvidia 6xx/7xx series cards come out? those are supposed to be better performing than current gen (if the following review is of any indication).

OK. Planning on upgarding in Feb. But I'll be skipping AMD.
Thanks

It is a myth that Intel and Nvidia work better together! If you are waiting till February then prices might look different.

+1.
a gfx card will work well with any cpu that lets it to flex its muscle properly. some cpus can bottleneck, others don't. it depends on the cpu itself.

If it's the regular 560 and not the Ti then the only difference between it and a 460 is clock speed. The 560 is the better card, but if there is a big price difference the 460 is close enough and you can overclock it to make up the difference, it will just run a little hotter.

intel hates nvidia. the myth that their stuff works better together is kinda stupid, if anything, intel and nvidia stuff probably would work worse with each other but I guess thats of a null point as you won't be using nvidia stuff with an amd cpu most of the time and benchmarks are always ran on intel cpus these days.

anyways the 460 is good but the regular 560 is often over priced. I'd go with a 560 ti at that price point.

Not sure where you are, but in the UK 460s are starting to go for stupid prices. I just picked up a pair for £100 each. That's nearly 50% cheaper than a straight (non ti) 560, and they overclock to buggery and back. A pair of 460s in SLI cap out somewhere between a GTX570 and GTX580, costing £350 according to the GPU charts on this site. Absolute steal right now, mainly because they won't be around much longer. They support all the current gen stuff, and are great value right now.

EDIT: a 460 is not 50% cheaper, that would make a 560 £200, I meant to say that a 560 is 50% more expensive, i.e. approx £150... Sorry for confusion.

Get a 2600k, it will definitly last you 4+ years as you will be able to oc it more and more each year to keep up with the newer cpu's!
