TH Mobility Access

I'm curious as to if there are any users out there who are having any luck accessing the site/forums on their smart phone or tablet. I think that this could be useful for those who would like to access TH on the go and for those who are considering buying a new phone in the near future.

We've had quite a few questions in the past in regard to creating an app or revamping things to allow members to access the site/forums on their mobile device, but alas, there are no plans at the current time to make the site as a whole more mobile friendly. However, as smart phone tech has gotten better, so have the native browsers and third party browsers.

With that said, if you can access the site/forums and can post, etc... as usual, what phone/tablet are you using and what OS is it running? If not, what kind of phone/tablet are you using? I'm curious to see how the "older" versions of Android do, as well as those out there using iPhone/iPads, newer Blackberries, and anything else I forgot to mention.

I can login/access the site/forums and post using my Droid 3's native browser (Gingerbread), as well with Opera Mini (the native browser is a bit better IMO). My previous phone, a Blackberry 9630 was unable to load the login box when I clicked on it, hence I had no access.

Can you access TH on your smart phone?

I'm posting from my iPhone as I type... I spend roughly 1/3 to 1/2 the time here at Tom's forum utilizing an iPhone. I have no issues with the site from my phone on the forum. I don't like using my phone for the main (front) page.

I like the new "News" app for the iPhone, along with "Tom's Guide's" app. It makes reading stories easy / clean. I wish it would allow you to actually post within the app.

I use the forums occasionally from my droid X, front page is a bit rough on the load times but the forums are doable, not great and i definitely prefer my laptop over my phone but they are doable.

I had a similar problem with the login box buwish, i think it does a silly lightbox thing and centers itself in the middle of the page not the middle of the window so it runs away from sight which makes it a pain to find.

I'm not using a smart phone at this time, however, when I do I will let you know whether it works with these forums and any issues encountered.

Dinc rooted running miui 1.7.22.0 (android 2.3.4)

The dumb login popup hangs and causes issues with some android versions and keyboards. Should have a standard login page option. Once done though it autologs and works fine.

Using Nokia 5530 Symbian 9.5. It always load the mobile version first which just have the news but not the forum. So I have to type in the address to access the full THW page. However, it is painful because the screen is so small. I wish the mobile version is forum enabled.

Blackberry Curve 8900. I'm having issues. The thing is, when I get a notification about a new post, etc, I head out to the link provided. It starts loading. It loads up 100% but doesn't 'stop' loading. I can see that the page has loaded fully but the progress bar doesn't stop (as if still loading). I give it time, but then the screen goes white and the content vanishes, just becomes a blank page.

I'd love to surf TH via mobile.

Yeah... The mobile site has no access to the forum :( You have to go through the desktop version or create a bookmark.

I used a few times iPad 1st gen. Load times are slow. Even on 50MB net its slow.

It loads quickly 85% of the page, but than it hangs on the right column for about 10-15 sec.

Use this site alot on my Blackberry and it is viewable but the font is tiny and i have to zoom in. the text is then too long for the screen so i have to keep scrolling left and right all the time.

MODS/ADMIN

have you considered installing the plugin for tapatalk as anyone who has the app can view forums on there mobile alot easier and faster. The app is multi platform so all android/iphone/ipad/blackberry/windows users can use it.

can this please be considered as this would make alot of people very happy.
