Is 5770 crossfire enough to handle BF3 and COD MW3 at 1080p?

Forum Graphic & Displays : Graphics Cards Is 5770 crossfire enough to handle BF3 and COD MW3 at 1080p?

Hi,

Currently, I have a Radeon 5770 running at stock speed. My wish is to run BF3 and COD MW3 at highest settings in 1920x1080 resolution. I have no thoughts to overclock it. Hence to achieve smooth performance, I am planning to purchase another 5770 to run both the cards in crossfire configuration. Currently I find used 5770s online for £60 (~$90).

Do you think there is a better alternative to buying another 5770? You can throw in any suggestion that is appropriate. For e.g., selling the current card and going for a completely new model (in such lines). Please note that I don't fancy anything that gives me more than 50fps. For me, it doesn't matter. In other words, I don't want anything monstrous. I can put in max $300.

I currently have a AMD 720BE running at 3.6GHz (overclocked). I have no plans to upgrade it. Also I have a 550W PSU. If needed, I can buy a more powerful one. My motherboard supports 1 x 16x or 2 x 8x. Hope it won't matter.

Thanks in advance, guys!

2x 5770 can definitely handle Mw3 at max settings because their engine is ancient..lol

Bf3 will work at 1080P but don't expect to crankup all the details. You will definitely need to drop MSAA and HBAO. If that still doesn't give you 60+fps then drop the other Anti aliasing too.

Now that CPU of yours does sound old so it will hold your performance back. But I still think you can play both games.

Another option is to upgrade to a 6950 2 GB, your psu should handle it and you will be able to max out all the games you are wanting to play.

So do you think my CPU will bottleneck a 5770 in crossfire?

you can also cross fire a 6770 with a 5770 they are the same GPU just a re badge

hahahaha.....alol

you want to crossfire 5770 for mw3

so listen
i have 6770, and i play mw3 at extra settings all effect are ON at 1920x1200 @60hz and gives me around 60 fps (my cpu is bottleneck)
and that too with only 50% gpu usage

so i don't think you will need a better gpu for mw3, can not say about bf3 because i haven't played it yet.

Your cpu will become bottleneck in any upgrade either crossfire 5770 or 6950

in my opinion you should consider a better cpu, as bf3 uses more cpu power in multiplayer mode (according to other thread)
