Building a MATLAB machine

Forum Homebuilt Systems : New Build Building a MATLAB machine

I'm trying to put together a serious number crunching machine for use in a neuroscience lab. This computer will be running MATLAB

I have about $2000 to spend.

The kind of code it will be running is very parallelized so it would benefit from many cores. I was thinking about a dual cpu workstation system. I know those can get very expensive quickly but it would be nice to find a way to make it work. The other option would be a Intel Core i7-3930K.

Given my budget, would it be possible to make a dual cpu system that would perform better than the i7-3930k?
Can anyone please recommend some parts?

Thank you very much!
