Hey,

Plain and simple;
I'm going to build a computer.
I've never built a computer before.
The most I've done inside is maybe adding some RAM or a GPU.

I'm pretty confident as far as putting the pieces together, etc. but before I buy anything, I'd just like to have someone who knows what they're doing assure me that everything will be compatible, etc..
(or, if not, maybe recommend something that would be.)

here goes;

ASUS M4A88T-M Motherboard;

Thermaltake TR-55 TR2 ATX 500W PSU

AMD Phenom II X4 960T Black Edition CPU

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) RAM

SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 5450 1GB

what say ye?

Avoid that Thermaltake power supply at all costs. The TR2 is blow up your computer bad.

For the parts you have listed this is plenty of power.

Might as well get DDR3 1600 for $6 more. It will make a noticeable difference from DDR3 1066.

Motherboard is cheaper at newegg ( as are most things).

Motherboard and processor are fine. Personally I would rather have Asus over Foxconn. The video card is fine as well as long as you are not thinking about gaming with it.

O1die you might want to revise that RAM recommendation. It's out of stock.

Edit: That CPU is not on the motherboards supported list.

Here is a Gigabyte board for the same price that does support it.

Just a quick comment, if you are planning to do some gaming, i suggest this card:

if you're willing to spend a hundred or so more, this will improve gaming by A TON.

(plus its sexy)

Awesome.

Thanks for all the responses.

Upgrading an old brick a few pieces at a time, and that's the card I already have.
Will upgrade eventually, but wanted to be sure what I had would be usable for the time being.
Same with RAM.

Thanks!
