Power cabling question

Forum Homebuilt Systems : Homebuilt Power cabling question

Hey guys,

I was wondering if there was a better way to plug in my DVD/RW drive to my corsair modular power supply than using a whole strip of sata power connectors. I already use another chain of them to connect my ssd and 2 x HDD and the last connector wont reach the dvd drive. Can you buy a single molex power connector just to power one device?

Oh and also is it right to be using 6gig sata cables for ssd and 3gig for HDD?

Many thanks,

1. No - every modular PSU is different - nothing is standardized and there's no way you can buy a cable with just a single MOLEX power connector. You could try moving your DVD burner down to the lowest drive bay on the rack and see if the cable can reach it then.

2. That depends on the drive - if your drive is SATA-6 then you want to be using the according cable. If your drive is SATA-3 you want to use that cable. It will tell you on the drive what interface it uses.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately the DVD drive is too far away to use just the one power strip so looks like I will be forced to use a separate one, oh well.

you can get an extenstion... or if you want use the 2nd one and cut the wires off after the first connector... I do this stuff to power supplies often.. if i know I'm not gonna use the other connectors snip snip

5 pin to peripheral, works on units like the HX620

6 pin to single SATA

Probably get them to make a 6 pin to peripheral if that's what you need and you ask nice
