This is my first time building a computer. I am hoping to hook it up to a 3D TV I already have and play some higher end games in 3D like Skyrim and also use it as a multimedia center. I have done much research and this is the set up I am looking at getting..any suggestions?

CPU - Intel Core i5 - 2500K...$210
Motherboard - ASRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3...$185
GPU - 2 PowerColor Radeon HD 6870 1GB (Crossfire)...$160x2
RAM - Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB: 2x4GB DDR3 1600MHz...$45
Storage - Seagate Barracuda 1TB SATA/600 7200RPM 64MB Cache...$110
Boot Drive - Samsung 830 64GB SSD...$110

Total Cost (missing power supply, case, and optical drive): $980

My advice is to buy this mobo ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3, support Crossfire , PCIE 3.0 , support new Ivy bridge.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813157271 122$
And in place of 2 X 6870 buy one 7950 is an amazing video card.

Ok, so I have decided that one HD 7950 is probably the what I will use.

Now, from what I understand is that the Extreme4 has more SATA3 & USB3 ports, along with an extra PCIE 2.0x16 slot. So, would the Extreme3 support crossfire with 2 graphics cards as well as the Extreme4 would? Also, this is kinda asking for someone to predict the future, but will there be a time within the next 2 or 3 years that I will want to use the Extreme4 to run 3 graphics cards?

Yes will support the same. Both PCIE on Crossfire running at x8/x8. I don't think you will need to run 3 video cards. To run 3 GPU's for me is a nonsense. It;s better to run 1 powerfull GPU or 2 in Crossfire or SLI.
