Cutting The Fat

Forum Homebuilt Systems : Homebuilt Cutting The Fat

I've got a build lined up but want to get some oppinions on cutting the fat a little. IE - Trim costs as much as possible while still being pleased with performance.

Computer Use: Gaming (Star Wars The Old Republic), Web, Work

Goal: Create a system that can handle Star Wars and any modern day games without an overkill to the wallet.

Parts Not Required: Mouse, Keyboard, Monitor, Case

Parts Pref: None

Overclocking: I hope the system is powerful enough where I wouldn't need to.

Country: US

Preferred Vendor: NewEgg or Amazon (but not picky)

Here is what I'm thinking but want to see if anyone can see any overkill for what I'm trying to do. Remember I'm trying to back the cost down, my goal is $800 shipped. This build is currently sitting at $1,100:

DVD: ASUS DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS Black SATA 24X DVD Burner - Bulk - OEM ($23.99)

HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black WD1001FALS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive ($159.99)

Power Supply: CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX750 V2 750W ATX12V v2.31/ EPS12V v2.92 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC High Performance Power Supply ($104.99)

GFX: EVGA SuperClocked 012-P3-1573-AR GeForce GTX 570 HD w/Display-Port (Fermi) 1280MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card ($349.99)

Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL ($46.99)

Mobo: ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard ($121.99)

Proc: Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 3000 BX80623I52500K ($229.99)

No gaming advantage with a socket 2011 motherboard .and you seem to be missing more than a few components ..like a processor

Get this instead
intel i5 2400
Z68 chip set socket 1155 motherboard
2 x4 gig of 1600 MHz RAM running at 1.5 volts or less
GTX 560 or 560 ti
5-600 watt psu

Make the changes I suggested earlier .
Only keep the 2500K if you will overclock
