I5 2500k with CM Hyper 212 cooler, AMD 7970 or GTX 590, Ripjaw 8gb ram 1600hz, Asus z68 motherboard, Samsung F3 HDD.

Those are some of the top components for gaming and ur system will play 99% of games maxed graphics @ 60fps. And graphics will be absolutely gorgeous!

No the i5 2500k and i7 2600k are equal with gaming performance. I7 has hyperthreading that no games use. I7 would be better if you do a lot of video editing. I have seen the i5 2500k actually overclock higher than the i7.

Your GPU is going to be the main factor of how much gaming performance you want. Here is list of different GPUs gaming performance. http://www.guru3d.com/article/amd- [...] -review/22

No way dude, save ur money. Put the money saved on cooler & i7 to i5 and put it towards ur GPU for best gaming performance.

1. Water cooling is not recommended for beginners. One bad installment and water leaks on system & ur PC is toast.

2. Some great air-cooled CPU coolers are almost as good as water cooled. The Cooler Master hyper 212 I found on sale for $20 is the best for the money. It's all your ever need for the overclock limits on this Sandbridge Intel chip.

Newbie the OP has a $1700 budget. Why would he settle for a 550ti??? That's even less gaming performance power than the 6850 and that's the lowest card on the list for BF3. BF3 ultra @ 1920x1080 would probably be running with framerate in teens, SLIDESHOW. http://www.guru3d.com/article/amd- [...] -review/22

OP you could save money and buy a less expensive GPU but you will not be able to play the newest games at max graphical setting with a smooth framerate.

BTW save you i5 newbie and don't overclock it. Overclocking that high will shorten lifespan of your chip. Plus there is no need to overclock with a 550ti, the i5 2500k running at stock speeds will max the 550ti with no problems at all, ever, which means no gaming benefit from Oocing.
